Podcasting - It's Not As Hard As You Think

Today I attended the Making Links conference in Sydney and did a presentation on podcasting.

You can find the presentation here: http://james.k-sit.com/downloads/makinglinks.ppt

For those of you who are interested, I am considering running podcasting workshops, just got to get the details sorted.

New Server

Well its been a little while since I last blogged so here's an update on the server situation.

We are now in possession of a spanking new hosting server upon which we are building the following services:

- Generic hosting: Basically space, bandwidth, you build the rest.

- Drupal Hosting: We're putting together our Drupal hosting streams, these will feature managed patches, specialised module sets for each stream and packages including domain name registration and so on. More to come.

Slight hiccup with the new server

Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances we were not able to move our web hosting services to the new server last weekend as planned. However we are still going to be moving across as soon as we can.

On another note we are going to be ramping up our home service offerings. So expect to see more about our PC and Home Network services in the near future.

Wollongong Small Business Club

Last Tuesday evening I went along to the monthly Wollongong Small Business Club event. I attended for a couple of reasons. Firstly its a networking event, somewhere to do the business card thing and make new contacts.

Secondly, I went along to support a good friend, Ashley Maher who was doing a presentation on Free and Open Source Software and the benefits it can bring to small to micro businesses (the core group who make up the Small Businss Club).

New Facilities

We are currently in the process of moving from our Nerdvana reseller account to a brand spanking new Nerdvana leased server. This will allow us to offer a greatly expanded set of services targeting not only the general business public, but developers as well.

Watch this space for upcoming news.

New Media - What is it?

We've recently added "New Media" services to our list of "things we do" so I thought I would have a few words about what people are discovering all by themselves.

The way people find their entertainment is changing a lot. Where once we all sat round the tv after dinner to catch the prime time show, many of us are now downloading our entertainment. We're accessing sites like youtube.com, queing up podcasts on our mp3 players or trading amusing videos on our mobile phones.

Open Source In The Illawarra

Most of our services are based on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). We've decided on going down this road for a couple of reasons.

Firstly it gives us and through us, our clients, access to the world wide communities surrounding projects such as Linux and the Firefox Web Browser. This means that if we have a feature we need to implement or a corker of a question, there is a vast resource out there for us to tap into to bring our clients the best service.

New Service Added

We 've added a new service. You can now register your domain name with us regardless of whether you use any of our other services. Just visit domains.k-sit.com

OSIA Meetup

This week we will be conducting an informal get together for local businesses that offer services and products based on Free and Open Source Software.

The drinks will be held at the Wollongong Tennis Club and will start at 6pm.

If you want to meet up with others in your industry and have a few drinks then drop me a line at purserj AT k DASH sit DOT com, or you can call me on 0406 576 553.

A blogging we shall go
