Open Source In The Illawarra
Most of our services are based on Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). We've decided on going down this road for a couple of reasons.
Firstly it gives us and through us, our clients, access to the world wide communities surrounding projects such as Linux and the Firefox Web Browser. This means that if we have a feature we need to implement or a corker of a question, there is a vast resource out there for us to tap into to bring our clients the best service.
Secondly I personally feel that the Free and Open Source Software world offers our region, our state and our country an opportunity to truly build our own local ICT industry, instead of relying on research centres such as Ireland, the US and western europe. Australia has the brain power if not the will to use it to become a power house in ICT research and development.
