Wollongong Small Business Club

Last Tuesday evening I went along to the monthly Wollongong Small Business Club event. I attended for a couple of reasons. Firstly its a networking event, somewhere to do the business card thing and make new contacts.

Secondly, I went along to support a good friend, Ashley Maher who was doing a presentation on Free and Open Source Software and the benefits it can bring to small to micro businesses (the core group who make up the Small Businss Club).

All in all I think it went well. The audience attention was held quite nicely and there was obvious interest as several people had questions after the talk.

It was interesting to see how many people had actually heard of linux in that room. Linux seems to be getting more traction as a brand name and as its name recognition increases more and more people are going to be looking at it saying "hmm perhaps there is an alternative to what I have now".
